Conquest ™ is a great water saver, using up to 70% less water than other grasses and up to 30 % less than buffalo grasses. If you have an active young family or a dog that is likely to be rough on your lawn, Conquest ™ would be great choice. It is tough and durable with an excellent growth and recovery rate. Conquest ™ looks best when mown short – during the summer it only requires mowing every 7-14 days to a height of about 20mm. Closer mowing will produce a putting green appearance. If grown in full sun Conquest ™ is extremely hard wearing and will tolerate considerable traffic. Conquest ™ will go dormant during (Canberra) winter, but it has shown itself to be the slowest of the couches to go into dormancy and the quickest to come out of dormancy. To maintain its green colour during winter, the Conquest ™ can be over sewn with a transitional ryegrass. The ryegrass will need to be stressed/removed during summer (by less watering) giving way to the Conquest ™, thus your lawn will remain green all year round. Characteristics:
Uses: Conquest is ideal for residential and commercial
lawns where a premium evergreen finish is required. It is also suitable
for hard wearing areas such as sports fields, golf courses, cricket
wickets and tennis courts where close mowing is required. Fertilizing of couch varieties is necessary to keep the lawn at optimum health. Summer fertilization regimes should alternate between a chemical and organic fertilizer applied every 12weeks at the equivalent rate of 2kg per 100m. In winter a single application of either a slow release fertilizer or organic type fertilizer will be adequate. Conquest will require frequent watering during establishment but tolerates drought once well established and requires watering once every 7 to 10 days. Overall, watering rates are much lower, up to 70% less than other grasses. For additional information on the Conquest Couch grass, click here. MTF (Tall Fescue)
The toughest of the cool season grasses. Tall Fescue is a fine blade type grass, which retains its deep green colour throughout the year (provided it is maintained), giving you a luxurious lawn. Tall Fescue is great for small or large areas, requires medium (to high) maintenance ie watering up to 2-3 times a week, it tolerates moderate traffic, is non invasive, and is available all year round. MTF (tall fescue) is a good all rounder. Characteristics:
Uses: MTF (tall fescue) is suitable for residential and commercial lawns areas where a soft formal appearance is required. MTF is best suited for small areas with no irrigation, whereas, large lawn areas using MTF will require an irrigation system. Maintenance: MTF (tall fescue) requires mowing once a week in its growing season and fertilising every 10 to 12 weeks, using a good organic fertilizer applied at the equivalent rate of 10kg per 100sq/m. In winter a single application of either a slow release fertilizer or organic type fertilizer will be adequate. For optimum colour retention, MTF (tall fescue) will require watering up to 3 times a week. Kikuyu
Kikuyu is a broad leaf warm season grass (similar to buffalo). Kikuyu is a vigorous light green creeping perennial with above and below ground runners. Kikuyu does not particularly like saline soils, but grows well on any well-drained fertile soil. It has a wide adaptability but does prefer moist, medium textured soils. Kikuyu is usually intolerant of shade. Kikuyu makes an especially good lawn on large areas and is one of the most economical turfs. Characteristics:
Uses: Kikuyu can be used for both residential and commercial lawns, in land reclamation projects and along road sides. Maintenance: Kikuyu will require frequent watering during establishment but once established should be watered on an as per needed basis. Mowing can take place every 7-10 days during late spring and summer. During autumn and winter every 2-5 weeks, only if necessary. Summer fertilization using a good organic fertilizer applied every 6 weeks at the equivalent rate of 4kg per 100sq/m. In winter a single application of either a slow release fertilizer or organic type fertilizer will be adequate. |
